The title of this post says it all, doesn’t it?
We are starting a book club!
This isn’t just any book club. This is a book club in which we will read books on the craft of writing fiction. We’re going to take it slow with this first book. We’ll read one chapter each week, then on Wednesdays, I’ll post a chapter recap with a bulleted list of what stood out to me, what I found helpful, and what I want to apply to my writing. I’ll also link to Go Teen Writer archive posts on the topic that might help you all. Then I’ll ask a question or two to get a discussion going in the comments. You will also be encouraged to post your thoughts.
Obviously, we would love for you all to join us, but even if you can’t read along, these Book Club posts will be written in a way so that you can learn too, even if you’re not reading the book. Sound good?
So, what book will we be reading?
Since I just met Steven James last week at a conference where I took his early bird workshop and bought his book (a book that people have been telling me for several years to read!), we are going to kick off the Go Teen Writers Book Club with Story Trumps Structure by Steven James. I’ve heard amazing things about this book, and I also think it will be a good book to stretch me, since I think of myself as an outliner. Click here to learn more about the book on Amazon.
You mentioned two giveaways?
Yes! We are giving away two paperback copies of Story Trumps Structure. One right here on this blog post, the other over on our Instagram page.
To enter the blog giveaway, enter on the Rafflecopter form below. USA entrants are eligible to win a paperback copy. International entrants are welcome to enter, but the prize for an international winner will be an ebook copy of the book. Thanks and good luck!
Are you interested in joining the book club? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Oh, this sounds like a ton of fun! I think I’d be more interested in joining if it were local, though ;/

What a neat idea! Not sure I’ll be able to participate but will be fun to sorta follow along anyway through the posts. And find new craft books to buy! Win-win for me. :0)
This sounds really cool! Book clubs are always on my radar. I really appreciate how we won’t necessarily have the book to still learn in this one though!
I’m in! ?
I can’t wait! I am going to try to buy the book, but if not, it’ll be nice to still follow along and participate.
WAHOOOOOO! I love Steven James and I’m very excited about this.

So excited that the comment came through twice 😉 I’m eagerly awaiting my copy of the book to arrive!
This is so cool, and such a neat idea! I’m in the middle of reading Bird by Bird right now, but I might join in for the next book 🙂
The first craft book I ever read! It was required reading for me either junior or senior year. I can’t remember which.
This is so exciting! I would love to be a part of it! I’ll see about getting the book and will try to participate, but even if I can’t get a copy, I’ll read the posts.
When does this start?!? I need to ask for the book at my library!
I might not be a full participant (publication pressures, a writing partner and I are about to self-publish our first book) but count me in.
Sounds like tons of fun! I think it’s a great idea.

I like this idea! I’ve been thinking I need to start reading some craft books and this might be the way I finally start. 🙂
